  • Big Messy Art (Ages 5-7)

    This process-oriented class focuses on using different art mediums and our different senses while creating. The best aspect of this class is how much fun it is going to be! We’ll be painting in big and messy and outrageous ways, and students will be challenging their imaginations all week! Children should wear clothing that can get messy. 
  • Story Writers (Ages 6-7)

    In this class, we'll begin each day with a different piece of children’s literature, and from there, move on to an interesting lesson related to the story. Students will have the opportunity to workshop and create their very own stories while learning techniques that authors use. This is the perfect class for a child that loves books and writing. At the end of the week, students will sit in the author's chair and share their works of art with the whole class.
  • Machine Sewing (Ages 6-9)

    Students are invited to learn a skill they will use for a lifetime and a hobby they will forever enjoy… sewing! No experience necessary; appropriate for students with either beginning or more advanced sewing skills. New students will learn machine safety and beginner sewing techniques, while more experienced students will have the opportunity to expand on skills they already have. The class will begin with a simple project and then students will advance at their own pace to more exciting and challenging projects throughout the session. Many fun and different patterns are presented each time! Please note: For new students, attending on Monday (the first day of class) is mandatory, as that is when they will learn how to use the machines and important safety tips.
  • Make Your Own Comic Book (Ages 7-12)

    Have you ever read a comic book and wanted to make your own? Now's your chance! In this class, students will draw their own comic books using traditional art supplies. Students will receive coaching on how to draw specific characters and 3D objects if help is requested, and they will be supported in finding their own artistic style and voice. All drawing skill levels are welcome.
  • Parkour Kids (Ages 8-10)

    Parkour and the art of movement is the ability to move fluidly through your environment from one place to another. In this sports class, children will learn to safely progress through the basic parkour movements of jumping, vaulting, climbing, swinging, balancing, and rolling. Our program is based on the five pillars of social and emotional learning, which are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. These movements build strength, balance, and coordination, helping your child acquire the ability to engage with their environment while overcoming obstacles, both physically and mentally. Practicing parkour skills fosters creativity and boosts confidence. 
  • Pickles, Berries, Jams: Food Preservation 101 (Ages 9-12)

    We’re excited to roll up our sleeves and get on our aprons to make treats that might include pickles, salsa, jams, and even dried fruit leather. Students will preserve a variety of foods, focusing on what is in season, and receive an introduction to the basics of food preservation. Depending on weather and seasonal crops, we may incorporate a berry picking trip. 
  • Painting and Printing Pop Art (Ages 9-12)

    Beautiful, bright works of art will emerge throughout the duration of this course. Using paint as the primary medium, students will use photography, advertisements, and famous works of art as inspiration to create their own pieces of pop art. The class will work with repetition, printing techniques, and mixing bold, loud colors to express vibrant images and messages, and they'll also explore the use of canvas, creating their own spin on historical art by replicating famous works from the 1960s pop art genre.
  • Digital Music (Ages 10-14)

    Curious about composing music? Love technology? In this hands-on class, students will explore music creation with PC computer technology. Lessons include audio looping, generating digital sounds from scratch, voice recording, mixing tracks together, and much more. Students will be able to experiment with programs such as Magix Music Maker and Sony Acid Music Studio (both similar to Apple’s Garage Band). At the end of the week, each student will have created their own CD, or individual mp3s, to bring home and share with friends and family.

  • Chess Fun and Cross-Training (Ages 6-14)

    Chess has many variants and varieties to its play. Students this week will be practicing Lightning Chess, Blitz Chess, and Bughouse Team Chess. Chess players will benefit by exercising their visualization and variation-building skills through chess-like mental play and exercises. Students will be developing tactical and strategical skills through chess cross-training in Give-Away Chess, Monster Chess, Whack-A-Move Chess, and other fun chess variants. Training tournaments with Swiss and round robin formats will accompany our chess practice throughout the week.
  • Hiking and Berry Picking (Ages 9-12)

    Students will go on a hike each day in search of outdoor beauty and nature's best snack: berries. Students will learn to identify common berries such as raspberries, strawberries, salmonberries, blackberries, loganberries and other berries that may come in season depending on the weather. Hikes will vary from four to seven miles long. Students should wear sturdy sneakers or hiking boots and bring a water bottle and lunch. 
  • Musical Production: Beauty and the Beast JR (Ages 11-14)

    Two shows on Friday August 7, at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in The Evergreen School Theater. Full attendance on all 10 days of rehearsal and for both performances is required for participation. NOTE: Children 11 or 12 years old should only participate in one of our summer musicals (Moana JR or Beauty and the Beast JR).
    Calling actors, singers, and dancers! The Evergreen School Summer Performing Arts program is producing the second of two big shows this summer and we need your talent! In this two-week production class, students become members of a small cast, and each day is filled with fun activities that build skills in musical theater performance. Every student enrolled receives a copy of the music, access to digital music files for rehearsal, and their own script in advance of rehearsals. Auditions take place on the first day of class. On the last day, in partnership with Backstage Crew and Costume Crew classes, actors will present two big performances complete with sets, costumes and lights. Our summer productions have a team of four experienced teaching artists all led by Evergreen’s Vanessa Miller.
  • Advanced Backpacking: Olympic Mountains (Ages 12-14)

    Students on this more advanced backpacking trip will embrace the challenge and adventure of the mountains! The journey starts with one day of car camping followed by three nights and four days of backpacking and exploring the incredible, wild beauty of the Olympics. Participants will practice essential backpacking skills, play in the greatest playground, and share stories around the evening campfires. This trip is for those with prior backpacking experience, and each student must be able to carry their own 30-40 pound backpack for at least five miles a day. Participants must provide basic backpacking gear; please contact Lindsey Porter at lporter@evergreenschool.org for a complete list of needed equipment.

  • Oh, Snap! (Ages 5-6)

    In this photography workshop, students will learn the basics of using a camera and have the opportunity to enhance their skills and expand their knowledge about photography. Through fun activities such as photo scavenger hunts and stuffed animal photoshoots, students will explore different photography types, compositions and basic technical aspects. At the end of the week, each student will take home a photobook celebrating the works they’ve created.

  • Recycled Cardboard Zoo Animal Sculptures (Ages 6-8)

    This week, students will be given instruction on how to make simple sketches of animals, and then they'll select their favorite zoo animals and work on their own designs to create them in three dimensions using cardboard, paints, and other materials. Finally, the whole class will be encouraged to work together to make a model zoo in which to display our creatures for our mini open house on the last day.
  • 3D Drawing (Ages 7-12)

    In this class, students will transform cubes, prisms, cylinders, spheres, cones, and pyramids into 3D works of art!   • Knitting (Ages 7-12)

    Learn the art of knitting and crochet! Knitting is calming, relaxing, and keeps us centered because of its repetitive rhythmic movements. Beginners will start slowly with finger knitting, before moving on to knitting needles and our handy Knifty Knitter Looms. Projects include bookmarks, stuffed animals, hats, headbands, pouches and more!
  • Basketball (Ages 8-10)

    This is a great opportunity for children to learn the fundamentals of basketball. Over the course of the week, they'll work on lots of skill building and play friendly games with just the right amount of healthy competition.   • Tech Theater: Costume Crew for Beauty and the Beast (Ages 10-14)

    Students in this class are part of the magic behind the scenes of Beauty and the Beast JR. As a member of the small crew of costume assistants, students will be altering costumes, assisting with hair and makeup, creating systems for organization backstage, and staging quick costumes changes in the wings. This is a fun, project-packed theater class for the aspiring designer. By enrolling in this class, students are making a commitment to being present for both performances on Friday, August 7 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. as each student is a crew member, assigned to individual responsibilities in wardrobe, hair, and makeup.
  • Tech Theater: Backstage Crew for Beauty and the Beast (Ages 10-14)

    Be a part of the magic behind the scenes for the musical production of Beauty and the Beast JR. This small team of students will learn about the technical elements of focusing lights, operating a sound board, setting up microphones, and being on the backstage crew, shifting scenic elements in time with musical transitions and light cues. By enrolling in this class, students are making the commitment to being present for both performances on Friday, August 7 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to take on individual responsibilities backstage or in the booths.
