  • Creative Drama: Forest Fantasy (Ages 5-6)

    In this early drama class, students will explore the fantastic forests of their imaginations. Using their bodies and voices, students will bring to life the magical characters and animals that are found sleeping on mossy beds, or hiding in fallen logs, or playing in babbling brooks. Students also build skills in sharing and taking turns in this week of creative play. Each day is filled with stories, craft projects, games, and movement. On the final day, students will act out a forest fantasy for friends and family.

  • Beginner Hand Sewing and Crafts (Ages 5-8)

    Learn the basics of hand sewing, weaving, and crafting in this class, created to introduce our younger students to different types of fiber arts. Students will learn basic hand sewing techniques like threading needles, tying knots, and experimenting with several types of stitches. Students can choose the specific projects they want to work on, such as hand-sewn puppets, pillows, woven rag rugs, bookmarks, and accessories. Sewing helps to build fine motor skills and finger dexterity, and most importantly, it will give their creative muscles a workout!

  • Story Writers (Ages 7-8)

    In this class, we'll begin each day with a different piece of children’s literature, and from there, move on to an interesting lesson related to the story. Students will have the opportunity to workshop and create their very own stories while learning techniques that authors use. This is the perfect class for a child that loves books and writing. At the end of the week, students will sit in the author's chair and share their works of art with the whole class.
  • Introduction to Typing/Keyboarding (Ages 7-9)

    Typing is an invaluable skill that takes time and lots of practice to master. This class is for students with little or no experience. We will discuss the history of typing and why it’s important, and learn about proper ergonomics and the home row keys. Students will also be exposed to several fun typing programs and games. A list of resources will go home on the last day.
  • Hip Hop Dance (Ages 7-10)

    Join us for a fun week learning about the dance of hip hop! Two parts hip hop, one part modern dance, one part martial arts, then add some popular music, shake it up in the summer heat, and make a stunning dance piece incorporating all these different genres! A great class for those new to hip hop or for dancers wanting to learn new steps. Students should wear sneakers and comfortable clothing each day.
  • Tarts, Pies and Ice Cream (Ages 8-13)

    Get ready for a tasty week! Students will be creating festive tarts, fruit pies, baked custard tarts, decorative crusts, galettes, and a pairing ice cream flavor each day. Students will learn the differences between tarts, pies, and their different crusts. Each of the baked products can be frozen for up to three months.
  • Pillow Polo and Team Handball (Ages 9-12)

    Come out this week and learn fun versions of two popular Olympic sports! Pillow polo is a nerf-sticks/nerf-ball game similar to hockey, while handball is the youth version of this Olympic sport that is very popular in Europe. Handball is a "hands-only” version of indoor soccer, or as some say, water polo without the water. Look for plenty of skill learning, team play, and fun all week!
  • Wire Sculpture (Ages 9-13)

    This pliable art medium is great for that child who loves to work with their hands. First, we'll create sketches of how we envision our sculptures, and then we’ll be handling the wire and creating 3D pieces based on our sketches. Table and hanging mobiles will also be included. Students will have the opportunity to create at least three pieces and then share the results at our mini open house on the last day.
  • Strategy Games and Math Puzzles (Ages 10-14)

    We’ll spend the week challenging ourselves with "Think Fun" games like Rush Hour, playing games that incorporate strategy or math in pairs and in groups, and solving challenges—logic puzzles, Sudokus, and other tricky math problems—together. Students will work at their own ability level on different logic and mathematical activities in a fun and supportive environment.
  • Dungeons & Dragons: Tales from the Table (Ages 10-14)

    This is an amazing and one-of-a-kind theater experience for anyone who loves D&D, designed by dungeon master/professional actor Brad Walker. Throughout the week, students will craft their own unique hero, select an adventure hook to start their story, and play a session of Dungeons & Dragons together with the teacher/dungeon master. Next up, students will translate the events of the game into a short play to perform on stage. Students will develop skills in acting, projection and creating stage pictures, and they'll make props to enhance the performance as well. On the last day, students will perform a half-written, half-improvised adventure play based on the events of the D&D game played earlier as a group.   • Musical Production: Moana JR (Ages 9-12)

    Two shows on Friday July 24, at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in The Evergreen School Theater. Full attendance on all 10 days of rehearsal and for both performances is required for participation. NOTE: Children 11 or 12 years old should only participate in one of our summer musicals (Moana JR or Beauty and the Beast JR).
    Calling actors, singers, and dancers! The Evergreen School Summer Performing Arts Program is putting on the first of two big shows this summer, and we need your talent! In this two-week production class, students become members of a small cast, and each day is filled with fun activities that build skills in musical theater performance. Every student enrolled receives a copy of the music, access to digital rehearsal files, and their own script in advance of rehearsals. Auditions take place on the first day of class. On the last day, in partnership with our Backstage Crew and Costume Crew classes, actors will present two big performances complete with sets, costumes and lights. Our summer productions have a team of four experienced teaching artists all led by Evergreen’s Vanessa Miller.
  • City Explorers (Ages 10-13)

    Seattle is a big, exciting city with lots to offer! This week, students will have the task of learning to navigate for a driver as well as utilizing the city bus routes. They'll learn to budget for their food and entertainment and develop teambuilding skills they'll use throughout their lives. The team will have opportunities to plan trips around Seattle, visit local markets, and try new foods, all while mapping and journaling important discoveries along the way. Our goal is for students to feel a sense of place and belonging in the big city. Students will be learning valuable life skills this week to carry with them for a lifetime!
  • Advanced Rock Climbing (Ages 10-14)

    For the climber who wants to further their skills. The couple of days will be spent focusing on climbing techniques at a local climbing gym. On Wednesday, we will head out for a 2-day climbing adventure exploring the outdoor crags of Mt. Erie. We will camp at a campground nearby so we can maximize our time on the rock. On Friday, we will return to the climbing gym. Students enrolled in this camp should have prior climbing experience

    We’re up-cycling materials this week, making cool art projects with recycled and easily found materials! Bringing their imaginations to school, children should arrive ready to create maybe a monster, some jewelry, possibly a mask, whatever they can think of! The class is about being creative and having fun. Class discussion will include where the item comes from, what it’s made of, and where it goes when recycled. Environmental lessons will focus on reduce, reuse, and recycle.
  • Engineers in Training (Ages 5-7)

    Take your accessory game to the next level with our jewelry design class! Students will start with simple projects like clay beads and macramé, then move on to more complex techniques with wire wrapping, chain and leather work, beading and weaving. Students will be creating layered necklaces, chandelier earrings, gemstone rings, and more. Supplies include organic and re-purposed materials, fun gemstones, studs, and rhinestones.
  • Mystery Theater (Ages 8-10)

    Join this team of detectives leading the investigation to help tie clues together and solve an original story mystery. Using various prompts such as pictures, found objects and typewritten notes, students will create an original play filled with complex characters, suspects, detectives and surprising events. Each day is filled with activities in creating a character, writing dialogue, and staging a scene. On the last day, students will share their collaborative mystery with family and friends.
  • No Bake, No Problem! (Ages 6-7)

    A hands-on experience for those who like to be behind the scenes of a big production! Every day, students will be studying with a professional costume designer and building different costume pieces to be used by cast members in Evergreen’s summer productions of Moana JR and/or Beauty and the Beast JR. Working with different materials, learning about color, pattern, and texture, sewing on a machine or with needle and thread, embellishing existing garments, and practicing different paint techniques are just some of the fun activities in this project-packed theater class.
  • Video Game Music (Ages 10-13)

    In this class, students will discover how to make their own music in the old-fashioned, retro style of 8-bit video games. Class discussion will be about the “chiptune” music genre and the history of video game music. At the end of the week, students will have their own CD to bring home featuring their created music loops.
