    This class is great for learning how to follow recipes and measurements. We’ll be baking without ovens this week, and granola bars, hummus and ice cream are just a few of the yummy snacks children will be making to keep their bellies happy during this fun class! Students will take home their own recipe book at the end of the week.
  • DIY Bedroom Decor (Ages 6-8)

    DIY crafting can be so rewarding and therapeutic! In this class, students have the opportunity to create unique DIY craft projects they might like for their rooms or elsewhere, such as blankets, flower boxes, and garlands. The experience of creating useful items gives a sense of achievement and purpose, as well as sparking joy and satisfaction to the crafter. Working on the projects themselves can be calming and help develop focus and mindfulness.
  • Beginning and Advanced Inline Skating (Ages 6-10)

    Students are taught the basic foundation of skate moves, which includes striding, stopping, and turning. Additional skills taught include "rules of the road," how to fall properly, and various tricks. Skate Journeys provides the proper size of Seba-brand skates for each child plus all protective gear (except for helmets); please provide your child with a helmet. No previous skating experience necessary. A parent/guardian-signed waiver form will be required for participation.
  • Coding Club: Animations and Puzzles (Ages 7-8)

    Students will use Scratch 3.0 to create animations and puzzles centered around their interests—they'll get to build what they love! Projects could be visualizations of favorite books like the Harry Potter series, or students' own versions of popular puzzle apps like “Candy Crush” or “Angry Birds.” This 3-in-1 class explores key topics in animation, game creation, and coding, allowing students to take full advantage of all that Scratch has to offer. Scratch’s powerful engine supports a wide range of student coding experience, so students of all levels are welcome!

    Students learn the basics of playing the ukulele in just one fun-filled week!   • Hot Stuff in the BIG Lab (Ages 9-11)

    Things are warming up in our innovation BIG lab makerspace this week! In this class, students will be experimenting with heat press vinyl, crayons, fun Shrinky Dinks, and more. We’ll be using glue guns, irons, hot plates, and our oven to create these imaginative science projects.
  • Pickleball (Ages 9-13)

    This week we will experience the fun and joy of pickleball, a sport that combines the likes of tennis and ping-pong. We will begin by developing the foundational skills of the sport, and really get into the swing of things as we progress toward singles and doubles matches. This camp will involve some drills, a lot of games, and all while remaining physically active!
  • Tech Theater: Costume Construction for Beauty and the Beast JR (Ages 10-14)

    A hands-on experience for those who like to be behind the scenes of a big production! Every day, students will be studying with a professional costume designer and building different costume pieces to be used by cast members in Evergreen’s summer productions of Moana JR and/or Beauty and the Beast JR. Working with different materials, learning about color, pattern, and texture, sewing on a machine or with needle and thread, embellishing existing garments, and practicing different paint techniques are just some of the fun activities in this project-packed theater class.
  • How to Debate (Ages 10-14)

    The goal of this week-long introduction to the world of public speaking and debate is to familiarize students with the basics of public speaking and argumentation. Debate is a fun and engaging way to learn and practice the processes of logic and critical thinking. Using a parliamentary style of debate, students will build skills in arguing both sides of an issue as well as defending their argument with logic and evidence. On the final day of class, families are invited to a final debate presentation in which their child will participate. Further details will be sent home to families at the start of the week.
  • Dungeons & Dragons: Tales from the Table (Ages 10-14)

    This is an amazing and one-of-a-kind theater experience for anyone who loves D&D, designed by dungeon master/professional actor Brad Walker. Throughout the week, students will craft their own unique hero, select an adventure hook to start their story, and play a session of Dungeons & Dragons together with the teacher/dungeon master. Next up, students will translate the events of the game into a short play to perform on stage. Students will develop skills in acting, projection and creating stage pictures, and they'll make props to enhance the performance as well. On the last day, students will perform a half-written, half-improvised adventure play based on the events of the D&D game played earlier as a group.   • Improving to Advanced Chess (Ages 7-14)

    Students wishing to build an opening repertoire and develop endgame skills are welcome to join in this week of more advanced study and play. Tournament experience is recommended, along with a desire to systematize chess study in opening systems, middlegame plans and endgame procedures. Thinking methodologies, visualization approaches, and the unification of strategy with tactics will be the focus of this week’s study and tournament play. A training tournament and individual game review will accompany our chess practice throughout the week.
  • Nautical Adventures (Ages 10-13)

    Each day, we'll visit a different water destination and play in a different water vessel! Whether your child is new to a sport or a seasoned sailor, our lifeguard-certified instructor will be there to support students while they’re gaining valuable nautical skills. Activities will be dependent on weather conditions but may include floating down the Snoqualmie River in inner tubes, kayaking in the Puget Sound, or stand-up paddleboarding and/or sailing in Lake Washington. Participants should be enthusiastic about spending the full week outdoors getting in the water. Each day, students must bring a swimsuit, light towel, daypack, full water bottle, water shoes (no flipflops), light layers that can get wet, and a lunch.
  • Musical Production: Beauty and the Beast JR (Ages 11-14)

    Two shows on Friday August 7, at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in The Evergreen School Theater. Full attendance on all 10 days of rehearsal and for both performances is required for participation. NOTE: Children 11 or 12 years old should only participate in one of our summer musicals (Moana JR or Beauty and the Beast JR).
    Calling actors, singers, and dancers! The Evergreen School Summer Performing Arts program is producing the second of two big shows this summer and we need your talent! In this two-week production class, students become members of a small cast, and each day is filled with fun activities that build skills in musical theater performance. Every student enrolled receives a copy of the music, access to digital music files for rehearsal, and their own script in advance of rehearsals. Auditions take place on the first day of class. On the last day, in partnership with Backstage Crew and Costume Crew classes, actors will present two big performances complete with sets, costumes and lights. Our summer productions have a team of four experienced teaching artists all led by Evergreen’s Vanessa Miller.

    In this fun introduction to beading and simple jewelry design, students will learn about the tools and techniques needed to create earrings, necklaces, bracelets and keychains. We will use a variety of materials to create our jewelry designs.

  • Creative Drama: Trickster Tales (Ages 5-6)

    In this class, we'll embrace the hilarity of sneakiness in trickster stories from around the world. Using their imaginations, bodies, and voices, students bring to life the adventures of Raven, Anansi, Coyote, and other famous tricksters. Students also build skills in sharing and taking turns in this week of creative play. Each day is filled will storybooks, arts and crafts, and games too. On the final day, students share their story with families and friends.

    What is electronic music? It is a hip music genre. In this class, children will have a chance to work with a professional electronic music recording artist and learn how to create this type of music, as well as how to use the recording software called Ableton Live to make beats, dance tracks, soundscapes, and original compositions. 
  • Mystery Theater (Ages 8-10)

    Join this team of detectives leading the investigation to help tie clues together and solve an original story mystery. Using various prompts such as pictures, found objects and typewritten notes, students will create an original play filled with complex characters, suspects, detectives and surprising events. Each day is filled with activities in creating a character, writing dialogue, and staging a scene. On the last day, students will share their collaborative mystery with family and friends.
