  • Fine Arts

    Oh Snap!

    In this photography workshop, students will have the opportunity to enhance their skills and expand their knowledge about photography. Through fun games, such as photo scavenger hunts and stuffed animal photoshoots, students will explore different photography types, compositions and basic technical aspects. At the end of the week, students will take home a photobook showing the works they have created.
     
    Machine Sewing Beginning and Advanced Skills

    Children are invited to learn a skill they will use for a lifetime and a hobby they will forever enjoy…sewing! No experience necessary for boys and girls to learn the basics and beyond. Beginning students will learn machine safety and beginner sewing techniques with a few prerequisite projects, while the more experienced students can expand on skills they already have. Student will advance at their own pace to more exciting and challenging projects throughout the week. All supplies (and machine!) provided.
     
    Fiber Arts & Crafts
    Instructors of Chelsea Cook’s Little Hands Creations

    This class explores different techniques in fiber arts. We will explore both textile art and paper crafts. Textile art includes knitting, weaving, dyeing and bleach printing. Paper crafts will be comprised of paper making, fiber marbling, paper stars, pop up-books, stamp making, flip books, scratch boards, papier-mâché and screen printing.
     
    Chinese Painting
    Instructor: Yuli Zhu

    Ages 6-9 years old, July 9-13, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., $180 
    This class presents Chinese language and culture through the art of painting. Children will be taught how to paint in the beautiful style of Chinese painting, using Chinese brushes to paint animals, people, flowers, and more.
     
    Chinese Calligraphy
    Instructor: Yuli Zhu
    Ages 9-13 years old

    This class presents Chinese language and culture through the art of calligraphy. Students will learn Chinese characters and their meaning. Children will be exposed to the different Chinese writing skills and taught the process of calligraphy.
      
    Spray Paint Art

    This art class introduces an urban medium and provides opportunities to learn technical skills: creating detailed, single-layer and multi-layer stencils while also employing spray-paint techniques. Teaching safety and responsibility with this art is our highest priority. Individual pieces will fuse student identity and interests into work that they can showcase and take home.

    Exploring Delicious Stories

    Stars and Stripes

    We’re honoring the USA this week! We’ll discuss all 50 states. We’ll be listening to traditional American music, tasting American food, reading books, playing games, and making colorful USA crafts.
     
    Incredible Insects

    Your children will turn into entomologists and explore the exciting world of insects this week. The class will read many interesting books about insects and create insect projects and crafts. We will also go on a nature walk to observe insects in their own habitat. We’re going to be scientists, putting our drawing and notes in our own science journal.
     
    Crazy Chemistry

    A fun, busy class blending classic experiments and crazy concoctions. We’ll talk about how chemistry affects our lives every day, and with a strictly hands-on approach we’ll explore aqueous solutions, precipitation, and crystallization. Open inquiry-based discussions all week. Students should bring their curiosity!
     
    Paleontologist Fun
    Instructor: Sandra Brown-Potter

    If your child is a would-be paleontologist, then this science-based class is for them. Students will be exploring the world of dinosaurs with paleontology, geology and archeology. Fun, hands-on activities learning all about dinosaurs from times long ago… and even today. (The chickenosaurus project sounds interesting!)
     
    Artistic Journaling
    Instructor: Rachel Edelman

    The week begins with children creating their own personalized, inspirational journal notebook. We’ll discuss the importance of journaling. There will be thought-provoking lessons in poetry, drawing, landscape photography, and creative writing.

    Natural Wonders

    This is a class of storybook creative drama in the outdoors. Through exploration in our “magical kingdoms and enchanted forests,” our children will be enjoying each other’s company in nature. We’ll be dancing, creating our own magical wands, planting seeds, and enjoying luncheons and tea parties, all while caring for the flora and fauna around us. Your child is more than welcome to bring in any pre-made costumes he/she already has for participation; we will also supply costumes. We’ll be getting dirty this week, so your child should come ready to play in nature!
     
    The Young Naturalist

    This camp is for the child who is an outdoor enthusiast. We’ll be out and about exploring nature through field trips to nearby parks for beach exploration and light hiking. Students will be encouraged to “leave no trace.” We’ll also spend time in the classroom soaking up natural science through books, activities, and crafts.

    Out of the Box Costumes

    This is the perfect class for the young budding costume designer with a rich imagination for storytelling. Every day, students will explore the art of simple costume design by working with fabric and color choices, and constructing costume pieces. At the end of the week, students take home a one-of-a-kind box of costumes for future plays and at-home performances.
     
    Musical Theater ~ Songs from the Magical Land of Oz

    Calling all witches, lions and scarecrows! Let’s ease on down the yellow brick road to the musical world of Oz. Featuring songs and scenes from three different musicals, students will learn, rehearse and perform songs from the smash pop musical Wicked, the urban 1970s The Wiz, and the beloved classic The Wizard of Oz. Each day, students will develop skills in singing, dancing and acting while also playing games and making new friends. At the end of this exciting week, students will perform a short revue for families and friends on stage.
      
    Spoken Word Poetry

    Use your voice to kindle the poetic spirit inside of you! Through memorization, movement, and vocal performance, students will bring poems to life on stage. After taking inspiration from published poems, they will write their own original work. On the last day, poets can perform for family and friends.
     
    Tech Theater: Scenery and Props

    A hands-on experience for those who like to be behind the scenes! This week is filled with design projects such as set construction, painting stage flats, and building props for this year’s summer productions of Seussical or Madagascar. Working with different materials, operating power tools safely, and learning paint techniques are just some of the fun activities in this project-packed theater class.

    Animal Yoga

    In a nurturing, supportive, and non-competitive atmosphere, students will stretch and strengthen their bodies, build body awareness, and focus on their breath as a tool for self-regulation and centering. We will include stories, songs, art, and dramatic play so that campers can express themselves creatively and practice working cooperatively in groups, while learning about the many yoga poses that take their names from animals!
     
    Sports Medley for Girls and Boys

    This week, children will play a different sport each day. Sports include soccer, basketball, t-ball, and flag football. We’re introducing the fundamentals of the sports, and getting children comfortable with the basic skills and organization of each game. Join us for skill-building and healthy game competition.
     
    Jump Rope Skills
    Instructor: Kimberly Daane

    Jumping rope is a great way to have fun and stay fit. In this camp, children will learn challenging rope-skipping skills. Class activities will include instruction and demonstration in single-rope skills, partner routines, double Dutch jumping, long-rope skills, and group games.
