  • Fine Arts

    Beginning Hand Sewing and Crafts

    Instructors of Chelsea Cook's Little Hands Creations
    Learn the basics of hand sewing, knitting, felting, crafting and weaving in this new class, created to introduce our younger students to hand sewing and fiber arts. Students will learn basics like threading needles, tying knots and experimenting with several types of stitches. Students will choose specific projects to work on, such as hand-sewn puppets, pillows, woven rag rugs, bookmarks and accessories. The will also learn and work on knitting. It helps to build fine motor skills, finger dexterity, and most importantly, it will give their creative muscles a workout!
     
    Summer Nature Art
    Ages 6-8

    Summer is the perfect time to focus on one’s artistic skills. There are so many wonderful ways to celebrate the summer, using natural materials from mother earth. Each day, students will be guided through a different visual craft and encouraged along with their special touches and creativity. Projects include bird houses, garden stones, sun photos, leaf prints and weaving.

    Fairy and Sprite Hideouts

    Think little but dream big, as we build fairy-sized hideouts from recycled objects and invent stories about magical sprites and elves. This popular class is great fun for any artist who likes to create miniature homes and hideouts all for imaginative play.
     
    Cake Decorating: Building Buttercream Skills
    Ages 9-14

    This class covers a variety of cake decorating skills that can be applied to cake and other sweet treats. In class, you'll learn all about buttercream icing, from making the class recipe to icing a perfectly smooth cake. Add the finishing touches to your cake when you learn how to use decorating bags and tips to pipe buttercream borders, such as the shell and bead border, and then learn how to make your cake blossom with buttercream roses, rosettes, drop flowers, leaves, and grass. We provide all supplies. Students will take home a treat almost every day.
     
    Chinese Calligraphy
    Ages 9-12

    Students will learn some Chinese characters and their meaning. Children will be exposed to the different Chinese writing skills and taught the process of calligraphy. The Chinese language and culture will be presented.
     
    Vision Boards
    Ages 9-11

    A vision board, also known as a dream board, is a personal collage of affirmations, images, and pictures of what a person dreams to do one day. This class will include thoughtful self-reflecting on who children are today and what their vision is for tomorrow. Students take home their creative boards at the end of the week as a reminder and motivator to reach for their dreams!

    Pollution Science Explorers
    Ages 6-8

    We're exploring the interesting science behind pollution this week ... and what can we do about it! The class will be doing hands-on experiments to learn about the effects of pollution on our environment. We'll discuss ideas in a group, then come up with solutions for how to reduce and eliminate our own carbon footprints.
     
    Novel Engineering
    Ages 7-9

    A reading, writing and story creation class exploring the engineering and design process through the exploration of literature! Through discussion and attentive reading, students will collect problems that a character is facing, then explore the needs and constraints of the character and brainstorm possible solutions. For a hands-on approach, students will work in teams to plan and build a functional prototype in order to meet the needs and constraints of their characters.

    We’re learning how to interview, write, photograph, and report for our own daily publication. Students are taught report writing mechanics and how to transfer the content into a quick-read, interesting piece for an audience.

    This week-long class combines international studies with cooking. Each day we’ll be learning a bit about the culture and cuisine from a specific country. Lessons will be taught using stories, cooking and craft projects, and geography and science.

    Terrariums
    Ages 9-14

    Students will be creating their own indoor garden: a terrarium. They will have many different items to select from. We may be planting mini ferns, succulents, or maybe even air plants or cactuses. Class discussion will include stewardship, interconnectedness with nature, plant lifecycle and the importance of ecosystems.

    Join us for this spectacular adventure into the world of magic, monsters, brave warriors and medieval fantasy! In this class, students will learn how to play 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons. Dungeons and Dragons, also known as D&D, is a roleplaying game where the players take the role of a character in the world that the storyteller, also known as the dungeon master, creates. We’ll be creating characters, playing the adventure, then fighting the battle. All levels of D&D players welcome to join!

  • Outdoor Education

    Backpacking on the Olympic Peninsula
    Ages 11-14

    This journey starts with one day of car camping followed by three nights and four days of backpacking and exploring the incredible, wild beauty of the Olympics. Participants will learn essential backpacking skills, play in the greatest playground, and share stories around the evening campfires. This camp calls to all who seek adventure! No backpacking experience is needed. However, students must be able to carry their own 15-20 pound backpack for at least five miles and must provide basic backpacking gear.     Creative Drama: Magical Kingdoms
    Ages 5-6

    In our Magical Kingdoms class, students will travel to faraway places and explore the secrets and mysteries hidden in the walls of ancient castles. Using their bodies and voices, students will bring to life stories featuring wizards, witches, dragons, queens and kings, and all the characters that are in the castles of their imaginations. Each day is filled with stories, craft projects, games, and movement. On the final day, students will act out a story for friends and family.

    Storytelling Through Classical Ballet: Coppelia, Swan Lake, Peter and The Wolf, and More!

    Dolls come to life when dance, music, and storytelling combine in this comprehensive introductory class to classical ballet. Each day, students will dive into a ballet, learning the history and experiencing the story through music, books and video clips. A daily ballet class will teach fundamental technique before applying their knowledge and skills to a short piece of choreography from the ballet.

    We Got Annie: A Dance Adventure
    Ages 7-8

    Ballet, jazz and modern combine in this dance camp inspired by none other than the musical Annie! Each day students will learn about the story through books and activities, participate in a dance lesson, and learn a short piece of choreography inspired by the classic play. Students are encouraged to enroll in both weeks, but have the option to enroll in just one. Always remember… you're never fully dressed without a smile!

    Two weeks. Two shows on Friday, July 19, one at 3:00 p.m. and one at 7:00 p.m. in the Evergreen Theater. Full attendance on all ten days of rehearsal and for both performances is required for participation. Children 11 or 12 years old should only participate in one of our summer musicals (Frozen or Honk).
    Calling actors, singers, and dancers! The Evergreen School Summer Performing Arts Program is putting on the first of two big shows this summer and we need your talent! In this two-week production class, students become members of a small cast, and each day is filled with fun activities that build skills in musical theater performance. Every student enrolled receives a copy of the music, a rehearsal cd and the script in advance of rehearsals. Auditions take place on the first day of class. On the last day, July 19, in partnership with our Backstage Crew and Costume Crew classes, actors will present two big performances (3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.) complete with sets, costumes and lights. Our performing arts program has a team of five experienced teaching artists all led by Evergreen’s Vanessa Miller.
     
    Tech Theater: Costume Construction

    A hands-on experience for those who like to be behind the scenes of a big production! Every day this week, students will be studying with a professional theater designer and building different costume pieces to be used by cast members in our summer productions of Frozen and/or Honk. Working with different materials, learning about color, sewing with a needle and thread, and practicing different paint techniques are just some of the fun activities in this project-packed theater class.

    This is a great opportunity for students to learn and hone the fundamental skills of soccer, as well as play friendly games with minimal competition.
