The class will discuss and explore the changes happening with the summer season arriving. Using our five senses, we’ll acquaint ourselves this week with the natural qualities of the earth to guide our learning. We’re using materials such as rocks, leaves, dirt, shells, water and sunshine as resources for outdoor games and creation of art.
June 28-July 2
S’More Outdoor Fun
Our classroom will become a campsite this week! The class will be making a crafty "campfire," we’ll listen to silly stories, playfully "sleep" in our tent, make tasty s’mores and gorp, and explore with flashlights. Class discussion this week is all about camping, the "leave no trace" ethos, and what it means to be in the great outdoors.
July 6-9 (closed Monday, July 5)
Joyful & Mindful
Listening to our heartbeat, slowing our breath and feeling our bellies rise … this week is all about mindfulness. We’ll do this through nature and sensory exploration, breathing exercises, gardening, games and crafts and more.
Sand in My Toes
Let’s have fun in the sand! What does cool sand feel like in between my toes? Children will search for treasures in the sand table, build castles in the sandbox, and create sand art. We’ll be learning about the amazing creatures that live on the beach and in the sea, and each child will create their own sea life book containing fun facts about different sea animals.
Animal Families of the Pacific Northwest
What animals live in our own backyard? We will read about and discuss the variety of animals that live in the PNW region. The class will go on nature walks each day in search of worms, bugs and animal prints.
This week is designed around sports! The class will be trying out different kinds of physical movement games, sports and activities. Grown-ups, please dress your child in appropriate clothing for moving and being physical. Closed-toed shoes recommended.
Digging Up Some Fun
Students are young gardeners this week. We’ll be discussing plants and flowers plus vegetable gardening. We’ll play in the dirt and sand but plant in the soil. This is our week-long exploration of gardening and the many important little creatures that live and thrive in nature.
Water, Water Everywhere
This week, we’ll be exploring water and playing in water! We’ll experiment with bubbles, ice and colored water. We’ll play water games and run through the sprinklers. Children should bring a swimsuit and towel each day this week.
